It's a New Year!

Bring it! 2012 is on. Training is going well so far. My 30 week training plan started the week after Thanksgiving. Currently, I am in the middle of Week 8. Training has been manageable to date, although I had a fever Monday night(rest day). First time that I have been sick in a while.

I am using Don Fink's book Be Iron Fit. The workouts are broken into 3 -10  week phases.
1st - Base
2nd- Build
3rd - Peak/Taper

In this 1st phase, I am swimming for an hour on Tues/Thurs, along with an hour of either bike or run.
Wed. are usually 1hr bike followed by quick transition to a short run.
The weekends then are long bike on Sat. and long run Sunday.
Monday are typically a rest day.
So far I feel good about my training and where I am. I will say that pool swimming is not exactly fun.
Riding the bike on the trainer, I can listen to music or watch streaming videos on the iPad.
I have had a couple of friends use the Mountain Bike to help their training, although both had wrecked and hurt their hips in the off season. No MTN bike for me this winter.
Running outdoors is do-able in the winter. My rule is 15 degrees and I will run outside. If it is 15 degrees
and windy, I will not run as the wind chill can be extreme and not worth the risk.Running outdoors in the fresh snow is so peaceful. I will run down the Centennial Trail in the morning and there is something amazing about that feeling. Making fresh tracks with running shoes isn't what some people think is fun, but try it sometime.
